[18:44]<+camerongray> Hey Calum
[18:44]<+camerongray> YES! I DID IT!
[18:44]<@Calum> :O
[18:45]<+camerongray> Calum: how's things?
[18:47]<@Calum> Still waiting to hear back from my second interview at that place, was back at work today after a week and a day off
[18:47]<@Calum> deep joy...
[18:47]<+camerongray> Ahh lol
[18:47]<+camerongray> May have bought another ThinkPad :P
[18:48]<+camerongray> Admittedly it's a T400 that I got for £60
[18:48]<@Calum> oh nice, why so cheap?
[18:48]<+camerongray> No idea, just what the auction ended at
[18:49]<@Calum> nice
[18:49]<+camerongray> I mean, it's a Core 2 Duo, but it's the newest P series one with DDR3.etc
[18:49]<+camerongray> I needed a cheap rugged-ish laptop for my software defined radio stuff
[18:49]<+camerongray> Was previously using a Probook 4515s but it was driving me mental
[18:51]<@Calum> how come?
[18:53]<+camerongray> Slow, horrible keyboard, dreadful speakers (it's used for radio so they need to be passable) and the charger put a mental amount of noise into the machine which effected the radio
[18:53]<+camerongray> And it got so loud due to the high CPU load
[18:54]<@Calum> yeah, I don't really like the 4515s, we have phased out all of ours at last - they did get pretty hot and loud under load
[18:54] * Nat (nathan@mib-9777B5D6.lightspeed.irvnca.sbcglobal.net) has joined #glitchpc
[19:05]<@Calum> oh, I'm being really tempted by another 27" 1440p monitor, even though I don't really have anywhere to put it
[19:06]<@Calum> £160 is a pretty good price though
[19:08]<+camerongray> ahh, lol
[19:08]<+camerongray> Jesus, this T400 has a dual band wireless card, sweet!
[19:08]<+camerongray> I recently upgraded to a dual band network so that's nice
[19:08]<@Calum> one of those with DVi, HDMI and Displayport as well so I'm almost convincing myself it'd be worthwhile for that, but...I dunno
[19:08]<@Calum> sweet
[19:09]<+camerongray> Especially since one of thie things this can do is stream huge amounts of radio data - Going to be nice to be able to leave it outside with the antenna and not have to run a cable like I was planning on needing
[19:09]<+camerongray> I'm really tempted by the 25" 1440 Ultrasharps
[19:10]<@Calum> Yeah, they seem like quite good value, I think two of those would make a nice setup for anyone with a smaller desk
[19:10]<@Calum> *measures desk*
[19:11] * t4nk155 (Mibbit@mib-2FC3340C.dynamic.fuse.net) has joined #glitchpc
[19:11]<t4nk155> hi
[19:13] * Calum sets mode: +b *!*@mib-2FC3340C.dynamic.fuse.net
[19:13] * t4nk155 was kicked by Calum (Calum)
[19:14]<@Calum> 'ave it
[19:14]<+camerongray> cheers
[19:14] * +camerongray awaits whiny PM
[19:14]<+camerongray> Been getting them since he was banned from the forum
[19:17]<Craig> Hey Calum, why did you ban him? :P
[19:18]<@Calum> persistent troll, he messed around in #ch and got banned, then got all whiny on the forum and got banned there too
[19:18]<Craig> Ahhh hahahaha
[19:18]<+camerongray> Hey Craig
[19:19]<Craig> Hey camerongray
[19:19]<+camerongray> Oh yeah, you'll like this, I finally went to the land of PFSense :P
[19:19]<Craig> Oh yeah?
[19:19]<Craig> And?
[19:19]<+camerongray> Really good
[19:19]<Craig> So much more amazing than Cisco eh?
[19:19]<+camerongray> I mean, I've used it in Tardis for ages, but this was my first time setting it up on my home network
[19:19]<Craig> :P
[19:20]<+camerongray> This is basically what I have now: https://twitter.com/camerongray1515/status/612747418711539713
[19:20]<+camerongray> PFsense router, HP Procurve 1800-24g switch, UniFi AP Pro accesss point
[19:21]<Craig> Thats like my network
[19:21]<Craig> what are the specs of your router?
[19:21]<+camerongray> Yep, I'm getting PMs now
[19:22]<+camerongray> Celeron 847, 2gb RAM, 40gb 2.5" HDD, fancy Intel dual Gigabit NIC
[19:22]<Craig> Nice
[19:22] * Nat (nathan@mib-9777B5D6.lightspeed.irvnca.sbcglobal.net) Quit (Client exited)
[19:22]<+camerongray> What do you have?
[19:22]<Craig> My dual gig nic is not cooperating anymore, so I just use it as a single nic,
[19:22]<+camerongray> Ahh
[19:23]<Craig> Mine is a dual core Athlon X2 3.2Ghz, with 8GB ram, and SSD for caching
[19:24]<+camerongray> Ahh cool
[19:24]<+camerongray> I was pretty focused on power efficiency
[19:26]<Craig> I wasn't worried about it, my next one will be from Netgate.com and it will be a quad core Atom, server edition, with 8GB ram, and 6 gige nics, two wan, 4 lan, or 1 wan, 5 lan
[19:26]<Craig> or some variation there in. :p
[19:27]<+camerongray> haha, nice
[19:27]<+camerongray> I'm fine with just two NICs in the router - Everything else is just done with VLANs
[19:27]<Craig> I need more practice with the vlan stuff, and a switch that supports it.
[19:28]<Craig> At the moment, I don't need much speration.
[19:28]<Craig> seperation*
[19:30]<Craig> What made you switch over?
[19:32]<+camerongray> JUst fancied the change really
[19:33]<Craig> :P
[19:34]<Craig> Have you turned on polling *As long as you have a dual core*
[19:36]<+camerongray> no, what's that?
[19:36]<Craig> Polling basically tells the processor to ask the networkcard for packets rather than waiting for the network card to post to the processor.
[19:37] * Nat (nathan@mib-9777B5D6.lightspeed.irvnca.sbcglobal.net) has joined #glitchpc
[19:37]<Craig> Can increase network traffic processing speeds by 5-15ms
[19:37]<+camerongray> Ahh sweet
[19:37]<Craig> Yeah I thought so.
